President’s Report

2020

It is with great pleasure I deliver the President’s Report for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Mash Netball Club Inc. being held on 23 September 2021.

2020 Season – Another successful year.

The 2020 Season was another fantastic year for Mash Netball Club. Mash registered 179 players in 20 teams. Once again we entered teams into both associations - Palmerston Netball Association (PNA) and Darwin Netball Association (DNA). This year we were able to build on last year’s achievement of 2 junior teams at DNA by entering 11s, 13s, 15s (Div 1) & 17s (Div 2) in the Junior Competition at DNA. We were also able to enter a Div 1 team in the Seniors Competition at DNA.

Whilst the Div 1 team did not make finals all junior teams made finals. 11s, 13s & 15s finishing 3rd after preliminary finals and 17s finishing 4th after semi-finals. A number of players were able to play up in the next age group when teams were short and this flowed over with a couple of our 15s playing up in our Div 1 team when needed. This provided a pathway for players which has been a goal.

At PNA we continued with success on the court entering the teams in every age group:

  • 3 x Go

  • 3 x 11u

  • 3 x 13u

  • 3 x 15u

  • 1 x 18u

  • 2 x Opens

Of those age groups eligible to play in finals – Mash won the Grand-final in 11s, 13s and 15s with Mash Warlu being runners-up in Opens.

Due to Covid-19 the season was interrupted for 6 – 8 weeks. We were fortunate to recommence again. This did see NT Link Championships and School Sport cancelled having no opportunities for players to represent. PNA introduced the Green Shirt Umpiring Program in 2020 which was very successful. This saw 3 members of our club obtain their C Badge.

Program’s / Development / Other Success

Success is measured in multiple ways – not just winning GF’s. Mash continue to contribute to the local netball community in the following ways:

  • 20 players in our Term 1 Net Set Program

  • Term 3 saw us launch our own 6 week 5 – 7 Program – Mash Minnies

having 28 players in Term 3 and in Term 4 31 players, some returning from T3

  • Term 4 we launched our own Mash Academy 10-14 yrs with 41 players. The academy

was run 4 days a week with Netball Skills and Strength and Conditioning being taught with the support from NTIS.

  • We also ran a 7-9 yrs Junior Development Program on Sat mornings for 6 weeks in Term 4

  • 2 x Day Development Camps were run with 20 plus participants, morning tea and lunch provided along with Netball Skills and Strength and Conditioning.

  • 2020 saw a return of a team in the DNA Wet Season Competition.

President’s Report

2019

It is with great pleasure I deliver the President’s Report for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Mash Netball Club Inc. being held on 17 May 2020 via Teleconference

2019 Season – Another successful year.

The 2019 Season was another fantastic year for Mash Netball Club. Mash registered 158 players in 17 teams. Once again we entered teams into both associations - Palmerston Netball Association (PNA) and Darwin Netball Association (DNA), however, this year we achieved another milestone, for the first time entering junior teams into the DNA competition.

For some time we have wanted to enter juniors into the DNA competition for two reasons:

1.       To stem the flow of talented players leaving our club and PNA and transferring to clubs playing with DNA; and

2.       To create a pathway for all players in the Palmerston and Rural areas that wanted to further develop their skills.

We initially entered a 13u and 15u team into the div 2 competition, but it was quickly realised both teams should be playing in the top division. Both teams had a great year with the 15’s finishing in the top 6 and the 13’s runners up in the grand final!!

At PNA we continued with success on the court entering the teams in every age group:

·       3 x Go

·       2 x 11u

·       4 x 13u

·       2 x 15u

·       1 x 18u

·       3 x Opens

Of those age groups eligible to play in finals – Mash won the Grand-final in every age group other than 18’s.

Once again, it was fantastic to see a number of our players being selected to represent PNA in the regional championships. Moreover, we were very proud to see some of our juniors also being selected to represent the NT at the School Sports competition.

Program’s / Development / Other Success

Success is measured in multiple ways – not just winning GF’s. Mash continue to contribute to the local netball community in the following ways:

·       42 players through the Net Set program

·       Fun Fitness preseason for numerous “athletes” in term 1

·       Representational

o   Clare Forsyth represented the NT for her 4th time at School Girls Competition – 15u – umpiring the Bronze Medal Match

o   Taelah Smith and Molly Suradi – selected to represent the NT at 12u School Girls

·       Mash once again took out the Bendigo Shield competition

Spirit of Mash Award

In 2019 the Spirit of Mash Award was awarded to Kelly James – specifically for her contribution to junior development

2019 Club Sponsors – Thank you

Mash Netball Club Inc.

President’s Report

Feb 2018 to Jan 2019

It is with great pleasure I deliver the President’s Report for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Mash Netball Club Inc. being held on 18 May 2019 at Darwin FreeSpirit Holiday Park.

The 2018 Season – Another successful year.

The 2018 Season was great a success for Mash Netball Club. Mash had 159 registered players in 16 teams, playing both associations Palmerston Netball Association (PNA) and Darwin Netball Association (DNA).

Teams at PNA

2 x NSG, 3 x 11`’s, 3 x 13’s, 4 x 15’s, and 3 x Open Teams (No 17/U Comp at PNA)

This year out of the 13 eligible teams to play finals saw us have 6 teams in the final 4 on the ladder for each age/division. 11’s were undefeated and took out the Grand Final, 13’s saw a Mash v Mash Grand Final with the winning team also going through the season undefeated and runners up fighting their way up from 4th  place on the ladder, 15’s we placed 2nd on the ladder and runners up in the Grand Final. Opens we placed 1st and 4th seeing Mash take out the Grand Final.

Not surprisingly a number of players were also selected in PNA Representative Teams for NT Championships held in Darwin. With this year a number of Mash Players representing PNA in the  Open team at NT Championships.

Teams at DNA

1 x Div 4

As there was no 17/U competition at PNA in 2018 Mash nominated a team of skilled players in this age group in Div 4 achieving great success winning the Grand Final.

Due to the changes at DNA and a requirement to have an A Grade and A Reserve Grade teams for Premier League it was decided to help group the Open Competition at Palmerston with our Seniors.

Junior Development

Mash Netball Club continued to deliver the NetSetGo Program.

Fun Fitness was introduced for Juniors on Wednesday during Pre-season training.

Also running an 11s Development Program in July/August

Carnivals

2018 saw Mash take part in the Bendigo Shield in Katherine. 1x 13s, 1x 15s and 2 x Opens teams travelled to Katherine along with Nightcliff Tigers Netball Club from Darwin to compete in the Bendigo Shield. Our Open team had a win and took out the Bendigo Shield with a well fought match with Nightcliff Tigers as the finale to a great weekend of Netball.

Coach Development

Emma Forsyth and Neil Forsyth were awarded their Intermediate Level Coaching.

Umpire Development

Nikkita Brookhouse obtained her National C Badge and umpired the Div 4 Grand Final at DNA. Kaitlyn Straube, Georgia Brooks and Mackenize Brooks completed their Online Umpires Course.

Emma Forsyth was selected to represent the NT  at 15/U School Girls Nationals and Clare Forsyth was chosen to represent the NT at 12/U School Girls Nationals, where she was awarded her National B Badge.

Spirit of Mash Award

In 2018 the Spirit of Mash Award was awarded to Emma and Clare Forsyth.

2018 Club Sponsors – Thank you

CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT

Wow! What an amazing first year for our club! Before I start to go through some of our amazing achievements, let me say a big thankyou to all our volunteers, our amazing umpires, inspirational coaches, committed players and the brilliant committee, whom without we would not have been able to achieve what we have achieved. I would like to make a special mention and thank David Murphy as the club treasurer for the amazing work he is put into setting up our websites and financial systems.

2016

Was our first year as an incorporated club, we had a successful year competing in the majority of age groups at the Palmerston Netball Association achieving the following results;

4 x Net Set Go Teams

3 x 13’s team – With the Div 2 (Sapphires) team winning the Grand Final

3 x 15’s team – Monsoons runner up in the Grand Ginal

1 x 17’s team – Stingers also runners up in the grand Final (after being undefeated all season)

We also had our first ever A Grade team competing in the Darwin Netball Association; the A Team was fantastic and even though we only managed a few wins on the board, they remained competitive throughout the season and provided inspiration to our junior teams. A really special moment and what we are claiming as our first piece of silverware in the cabinet was when our own Angie Breen received the MVP award for /div 5 at the DNA presentation evening – Well done Ang!

At the end of season saw a number of Mash players represent PNA at NT Links Netball Championships for the NT.

Umpires – As a committee we agreed to invest in our umpires this year and work on creating an environment that would support those wanting to make the transition, working with the associations and netball NT. Leesa Greegson achieved her C Badge and we had representation with Emma and Clare umpiring at School Girl National Competition held in Melbourne. We have also had news that Rhiannon Sayer has been badged “C”

by her new association in Queensland.

Coaches – I was able to complete and receive my Intermediate Coaches certification and a number of people completed their foundation level coach certification including, Neil Forsyth, Emma Forsyth, Clare Forsyth and Ella Mulvahill.

Grants and Sponsorship - A sports grant for over $8000 which was used to buy necessary sporting equipment and provide training for many of our players and officials.

2017

We started pre – season early this year with some key initiatives and wanting to build on our success of last year. The season started with around the same number of players as last year 150, and a similar number of teams. Although we didn’t fill an A Grade senior team, we were able to have an extra div team for the DNA competition. Teams for 2017 are;

DNA

PNA

This year we decided that we would have coaching as a focus, investing as necessary to develop our coaches to help create the right grass roots level training for our players. So Far this year we have had three people complete their foundation level certification;

Neil

Emma

Clare

Umpires;

At the time of writing this report we are also planning to send a team to Katherine, there is a lot of interest in this and will continue to develop our players,

We are also planning to be the first associated club in Palmerston to run the net set go programme to help support blah blah blah

MASH Netball Club prides itself on some key Principles including;

Ø  Develop strength and resilience in our players; Grow as a team

Ø  Develop competitive and persistent behaviours; Be the best you can be

Ø  Don’t compromise the brand (MASH); Integrity and trust is paramount to our club

Ø  Officials, umpires, coaches, managers and supporters are all an important part of the game and without them the game cannot progress

Ø  Parents are part of the journey; Parent contribution is necessary and valued

Ø  A player’s commitment to the club and the team is key to our values.

So an amazing 18 months has already passed, we have achieved so much with plenty more to come. I look forward to the next 12 months and look forward to seeing our Netball Family grow in spirit & confidence.

Thankyou to all!

2016

Season 2016 was Mash Netball Club's inaugural year.  Following on from previous years when we played under the banners of Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School Netball and Mackillop Catholic College Netball, Mash Netball Club was formed to further develop Netball in the Palmerston area.

Mash fielded teams in both the Palmerston and Darwin Netball Associations.

In Palmerston we fielded 12 teams with 3 teams making their respective Grand Finals.  The girls from Sapphires  were successful in the U13 final against Magpies White 23 to16.  Our U15 Monsoon girls were defeated by Magpies Black 22 to 16 and U17 Stingers were defeated by Magpies Black 30 to 22.

In Darwin we fielded two teams,  Mash Saints in the premier  A grade competition and Mash Sinners in a lower Division.
